This is the story of a Christmas baby.

This season is all about gifts. We give gifts to one another, and we remember the very good gift of God’s son, given to a weary world on the first Christmas Day.

But is God still in the business of giving good gifts?

Lisa-Jo tells the story of her own Christmas baby. It’s a story of how shame and sorrow gave way to peace and joy. It’s a story of good gifts freely given, no strings attached.

If you feel discouraged, if God’s goodness feels a little hard to grasp, we hope you’ll listen and be reminded that something as small and ordinary as a baby can change everything.

Time to get to work, but I can’t stop turning my head to watch the leaves fall.

Maybe I should add “gaze outside” to my list of tasks. Maybe I should give “paying attention” its rightful place in my life.

Or maybe I’m just procrastinating. 😉 But I do know I don’t want to miss this. Winter is a long road, and this beauty is food for the journey. 🍁✨🍁

Happy Saturday from Maplehurst. 🌿

This is what happens when you remember you were supposed to take new photos for your website just as you’re preparing to plant a 1,000 or so bulbs. Not pictured: red rain boots with a rooster pattern. Grateful for the friend/husband who digs the holes and takes the photo.

Anyone else in the garden this weekend? 🌿

At a time of year when I want crisp, bright, and brilliant, my place consistently gives foggy, damp, and muted. Learning to love the beauty we’ve been given is a constant practice, a daily discipline.

Scrolling through photos I took around the house yesterday, I found this one where the light almost made the wallpaper sparkle. I cropped out the mess that seems permanently attached to the kitchen table these days, and found that to be a very satisfying exercise.
.
Some messes need to be cleaned and some just need to be ignored for a while. Because the wallpaper is sparkling, dust motes are dancing in the light from the window, and here comes another day. ✨
